About SSDCC

The club was spawned from the Randwick CYM Cricket Club where it had dominated the local competition for many years. For example, Randwick CYM had won the First Grade competition 19 of the previous 21 seasons. In recognition of the clubs on and off field performances an invitation was extended by the Sydney and NSW Cricket Associations to enter the Sydney second division competition, referred to as Shires.

The Club accepted the invitation and entered as Randwick CYM. However, as the name could possibly cause confusion with first division club, Randwick District Cricket Club, the club agreed to a name change to South Eastern Sydney. After Three seasons the name was again changed. This time to South Sydney in recognition of the district it essentially represented and to forge effective links with both the local Council and the Rugby League Football Club.

The Club recently received Council approval to a 21 year license for the oval and constructed a joint community/sporting facility with all amenities and viewing areas plus installation of an electric scoreboard and small grandstand. Lighting to allow evening usage and twilight competition has also been installed. These improvements have resulted in a facility which is a showcase for cricket in the inner city area and one of which local residents can be proud.

South Sydney District Cricket Club fields 6 senior teams all of whom play exclusively on quality turf wickets. SSDCC have recognised the vital importance of junior development fielding in conjunction with our local Junior Club, Mt Carmel, 11 teams in the age range 8-16. One of the 11 teams is a wholly girls team.

Additionally, SSDCC provides professional coaches not only to its junior teams but to all young players in the area. SSDCC also assists financially, in recognising the economic situation affecting many of the families in the district, the Club meets wicket and registration charges and subsidies player clothing to the best of its limited financial capacities. The Club depends on local business sponsorship support to assist the local development of young persons meet their potential.

Established in 1994/95 the Club is entering its 15th season. In this short time it is widely recognised as one of the best administered and performed clubs in Sydney.
